01 Is Microsoft Azure any Good? My expert Review

My recent experience transitioning applications to Microsoft Azure has shown to me the power and flexibility of this platform beyond any other platform I have worked with previously. I particularly enjoyed the experience of deploying a scalable web app for an ecomm client. The confidence I had in Azure was boosted by seeing it automatically and seamlessly scale allocations as traffic surged during holiday sales. Seeing Azure complete a mission-critical task without issues helped to highlight the idea of maintenance free technology. Azure also checked the security box. In my latest experience with a healthcare client, we had to protect sensitive material for patients. Knowing Azure provided encryption, along with AI-enabled threat detection, helped greatly during the deployment. Overall, our deployment was not nearly as high-wire as I imagined!

That being said, it was not without it's challenges. The breadth and depth of Azure Platform Services has to be a bit mind-blowing to teams that don't have a cloud guru, and at times it felt like trying to monitor our costs was like chasing a mirage. For example, there are certain pricing structures that were vague, and we effectively had to constantly monitor costs; which issue was a cloud trump in its own right! However, I also think Azure offers added value in terms of being able to utilize its functions with its other existing Microsoft technology, including migrating workloads for legacy Windows servers.

In conclusion, Azure has powerful tools that offer plenty of flexibility for a range of different use cases. There is plenty of room for improvement, including clarity regarding cost metrics and guidance on functionality/capabilities. Nevertheless, more times than not, the value-add outweighed the challenges.

Cons from reviewers

The registration and management process can be complex, requiring a deep understanding of eligibility criteria and administrative requirements.

  • Technological Dependence
Startups may become reliant on Microsoft technologies, limiting their flexibility to integrate other solutions or platforms.

  • Hidden Costs
Some features or additional services may incur unforeseen costs, which can be a challenge for startups with tight budgets.

  • Restricted Personalized Support
Technical and business support may not be sufficiently personalized to meet the specific needs of each startup, especially those in rapid growth phases.

  • Limited Access to Resources
While the program offers resources, access may be limited or competitive, meaning not all startups benefit equally.

04 How Microsoft Azure compare to similar software?

Azure and Microsoft 365 are two distinct categories of Microsoft's cloud services, each tailored to address specific business needs and objectives.

Azure is Microsoft's cloud computing platform and infrastructure service. It provides a wide array of services, including virtual machines, databases, networking, and storage solutions. Azure is designed to cater to businesses looking for a robust cloud infrastructure that can host, manage, and scale applications and services with a strong focus on scalability, flexibility, and security. It serves as the backbone for building, deploying, and managing various types of applications and services.

In contrast, Microsoft 365 falls under the category of productivity and collaboration suites. It offers a comprehensive set of productivity tools, including popular applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook. Microsoft 365 is aimed at enhancing communication, collaboration, and document management within organizations. It provides...

Azure and AWS are two leaders in the cloud computing services industry. Azure offers four forms of cloud computing, including infrastructure as a service, platform as a service, software as a service, and sever-less functions. Designed and maintained by Microsoft, Azure is often the first choice of exiting Microsoft users. AWS offers a range of solutions catering to various industries, including the financial services, government, and retail sectors. AWS has also been around for longer and, as a result, holds a larger market share.

While the two platforms’ product offerings are broadly similar, the way they provide them varies. For example, Azure and AWS use different methods of creating private networks for users. AWS uses a virtual private cloud (VPC), a form of hybrid cloud deployment. This private cloud is stored in isolation within a public cloud. In comparison, Azure uses a virtual private network (VPN), creating a secure connection to another network, giving Azure...

Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud are two market leaders in the cloud computing space, offering a wide range of technological solutions for businesses of all sizes. Both have a strong reputation for delivering reliable services. While these platforms share many similar products, it’s worth noting that Google Cloud strongly focuses on AI solutions, while Azure is renowned for its enterprise-orientated solutions. Google Cloud uses advanced Deep Learning models to power its AI solutions. Its TensorFlow open-source software library has a good reputation among developers. Azure excels with hybrid cloud and on-premises solutions and is ideal for existing Microsoft enterprise users.

One pivotal difference between Azure and Google Cloud is their support plans. Google Cloud offers Basic support to all customers plus three paid support plans - Standard, Enhanced, and Premium. The Standard plan costs $29/month + 3% of your monthly charges, offering service reponses during business hours....
